Interview with Daily Single June 28, 2011 "Bold pallete in the city" Marianne Moreno is a 29 year old fine artist. She lives in New York City, New York, United States. DS: How did you hear about Dailysingle? What are you expecting from being on the front page? Marianne Moreno: I heard about Dailysingle through Facebook. I kept reading the articles that my friends were posting and I thought wow, this is interesting! DS: What are the most memorable years of your life and what happened to make them so memorable? Marianne Moreno: I was finishing up my art studies at the Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington D.C. when I got the sudden urge to move to Florence, Italy. Certainly that was one of my most memorable moments. I didn't speak the language but I was determined to learn from the old masters. From seeing the Futurismo show in Milan to Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel in Rome I have carried these artistic wonders with me wherever I go. These experiences have greatly contributed to my expansion and development as an artist. I no longer feel confined within the definition of what art is. Art is evolving and changing everyday. I push myself to create something new and different...art is my passion and my personal experiment. DS: Where were you born and where do you live now? Marianne Moreno: I was born in the United States but lived in Mexico, Texas, Washington D.C. Florence Italy, and now New York City. Every place is so different and so I am in a constant state of learning. You really never know where you're going to end up but it's about getting to a point where you let life take you where it wants you to be. I'm in love with New York City right now and for now, I'll keep my focus here. DS: How would you best describe yourself? Marianne Moreno: I am a little cooky but I know how get things done. I am inspired by everything - good and bad. My paintings tell stories, some of them are personal and some are universal. DS: What are the must-haves in your daily wardrobe? Marianne Moreno: My black and white Michael Kors blouse is a must have... I remember when I wore it in Italy and the guys thought I was a referee. A basic pair of worn out holy jeans and heels! I call this look sporty-chic. DS: Who do people tell you you look like? Marianne Moreno: Just last weekend I was at Gansevoort hotel and more than one person came up to me and said, you know who you look like, Kim Kardashian! DS: What is the compliment you most frequently get? Marianne Moreno: People ask how do you go from this painting style to that and I reply the day all my paintings look exactly the same (style, color and technique) is the day I have died as an artist! DS: How did you end-up being a fine artist? Marianne Moreno: It was by choice. I was a stock broker right out of college working at one of the most prestigious private wealth management companies and I suddenly realized if I can be mildly successful doing something that I'm just so-so about why not try something that I knew I was super passionate about. For me that was art. Sometimes big risk = big reward! Finance 101. DS: Can you tell us more about your job? Marianne Moreno: I moved to NYC about 3 months ago so I am in the process of getting my art out to local galleries. Last week I had a curator from a gallery come to my apartment and take a look at some of my work. She left me with this quote, "Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage.” Cheers because we are on for a show in September! During the week I am manager, hostess and media relations liaison for a fine art gallery in Long Island. Currently, I am organizing a community event for the gallery where 30% of the sales go towards a charity called, Splashes of Hope. The mission of this charity is to provides art work for hospitals in need. DS: Let's talk more about you and your tastes. Any hobbies? What do you like to do in your free time? Any thing you like and recommend? Marianne Moreno: Some of my favorite things include: Henry Miller, Anais Nin, Joseph Campbell, Italian food, central park, running, tennis, travel and chocolate, wine and, most importantly, amazing friends to share the experience with. DS: What is a typical week for Marianne Moreno? Marianne Moreno: I commute a lot. Spend half of the week in the city and the other half in Northport, New York. I can be a bit of a workaholic but always make time for a good party with friends. DS: Some quick questions: What is the first thing you do in the morning? Marianne Moreno: Hit the snooze button 3-4 times. DS: What is your favorite word? Marianne Moreno: Love. DS: What it your favorite quotation? Or make your own for posterity... Marianne Moreno: "Art is about making change, opening the mind, and evolving." -Me DS: What is your favorite "drug"? Marianne Moreno: Coffee. Really, I can only choose one? Okay, so coffee is always there, it's my comfort, it can be sweet or tart when I need it to be. It's quite perfect. DS: What magic power would you like to have if you could choose one? Marianne Moreno: If I could have a magic power it would be to fly. I often have dreams about it and just wish I could do this. It's strange because I know the exact sensation and feeling in my conscious life. DS: If not yourself, who would you be? Marianne Moreno: Who would I be other than myself...I would be Madonna. She is the epitome of an artist on many levels. DS: What is in store for you? Any key projects for the next months? Anything you want to share? Can our readers help you with anything? Marianne Moreno: Thanks so much for reading my interview. I hope that it can inspire you.
